Halls, Seating Plan, and Technology: New World, Anchor, and Bambi

The New World Cinema Center consists of three individually designed halls, which together offer a wide range of comfort and atmosphere. The New World hall is the centerpiece with 189 seats distributed across the parquet, loge, and VIP areas. In the loge, the rows are deliberately kept short, allowing for quiet coming and going, and there are love chairs for couples, where the middle armrest can be folded up. The VIP zone includes three rows with additional comfort for putting your feet up. Two designated wheelchair spaces ensure that barrier-free seating is possible in the largest hall. The audio standard is Dolby Surround 7.1, which allows even quiet details and spatial effects to come to the fore. The Anchor hall offers 100 seats and is very wide, with a large screen and strong row elevation, ensuring that visibility remains unobstructed even during full screenings. Here, new, comfortable red chairs have been installed; additionally, there are twelve couple seats suitable for shared cinema visits. The audio standard is also Dolby Surround 7.1, and the hall is prepared for 2D and 3D. The studio cinema Bambi has 84 seats and has been extensively renovated. Particularly striking are the wide artificial leather chairs, generous row spacing, and a special acoustic ceiling that provides a precise sound image. Small tables are located at some corner seats, conveniently accommodating snacks and drinks. Dolby 7.1 is also used here. For 3D screenings, modernized systems have been installed in the large halls, and 3D glasses are available at the entrance for a small fee; they can be taken home after the visit and reused for subsequent screenings. In all halls, guests benefit from the clear seating structure, which is immediately reflected in the online reservation: You can comfortably select rows and seats in the familiar style on the hall plan. For sound fans, the ProSonic support is also worthwhile, making the bass physically perceptible and impressively highlighting action scenes as well as live broadcasts.

Upcoming Events and Series: Met Opera, Movies in English, Film Discussions

Beyond regular cinema operations, the New World Cinema Center has established itself as a venue for special formats. A fixed component is the Met Opera season 2025/2026 with selected dates, including Bellini's Il Puritani in January 2026 and other major opera works in spring 2026. The live broadcasts offer opera lovers a concert experience in cinema quality, including breaks and insights behind the scenes. The venue also maintains series that appeal to different audiences. The Movies in English usually run every two weeks, mostly on Mondays or Tuesdays, and present current films in their original version. Those learning languages or loving original sound will find a recurring gateway to international cinema here. The day of the special film is dedicated to selected titles on Wednesday evenings, often with an artistic, social, or documentary focus. Additionally, there are the Weiden film discussions, which usually take place on Wednesdays with a film to stimulate further thinking and conversation. A crowd favorite is also the VdK Good Morning Cinema: Every first Wednesday of the month, a screening starts at 10:00 AM at a special price. In addition to these series, the venue supports cultural initiatives and special premieres from the region; local media regularly report on well-attended events and premiere nights that make Weiden visible as a film city. Thus, the program covers spectra that go beyond the blockbuster experience: English-language originals, classical music theater, demanding films, discussion formats, and community events. Comfort is evident in the different seating areas, from loge and parquet to VIP rows, love seats, and couple seats. Depending on the type of film, visitors choose their preferred area: For quiet dramas, the loge with short rows is pleasant; for action or 3D titles, the central area at the height of the projection axis provides a particularly balanced image, while VIP rows score with more legroom and relaxation function. Acoustically, the venue delivers powerful yet differentiated reproduction with Dolby 7.1 in all halls and the ProSonic sound system. Voices remain clear, effects and music are spatially distributed, and in action-packed scenes, the low frequencies can be felt additionally. In terms of service, the easy online reservation, clear price information, and the sale of 3D glasses are among the details that make the visit manageable. Barrier-free options via Greta & Starks increase inclusion. Visual impressions are ultimately created through press photos and event images surrounding premieres, opera broadcasts, or local cultural evenings, showing how versatile the location is used. This cinema has a very special talent: age control based on facial impression. While peers could easily get in, you learn here that a single month difference apparently means worlds, at least if you happen to have the 'wrong' face. Impressive how creatively rules can be interpreted. So, if you want to experience how fairness is replaced by spontaneous gut feelings, this is the place to be.

Unfortunately, this cinema has developed negatively. The screen in the 'Anker' hall is wrinkled and dirty. The seats are absolutely uncomfortable. Movies like 'Das Kanu des Manitu' are not shown in the main hall, even though there was a crowd. It was definitely better before.

Lots of space in the hall. Acoustics 7 out of 10 sitting in the middle of the middle row. Overall, a great evening.

We were in the Bambi hall today for How to Train Your Dragon. The movie was played so quietly that we could hear the entire Lilo and Stitch movie from below. Never again New World Cinema, that's just unacceptable.
