Directions and Parking at Upper Market
The journey to the Tourist Information is easy for visitors because the location is right in the historic old town. The Weiden old town with Upper Market, Lower Market, School Alley, Türlgasse, Wörthstraße, and Max-Reger-Straße is organized as a pedestrian zone. This means: There is no regular through traffic directly in front of the Old Town Hall, making the surroundings very pleasant for strolling and discovering. Those arriving by car can park in nearby parking garages or lots and walk the last meters. The city also points out that there are around 2,000 parking spaces available in the city center. For a tourist city center, this is a real advantage, as you are not burdened with parking searches in the immediate center. The old town remains car-free enough to enjoy the historic ambiance while being practical enough to combine arrival and stay comfortably. ([weiden-tourismus.info](https://www.weiden-tourismus.info/sehenswuerdigkeiten/bauten-denkmaeler/marktplatz))
Additionally, the location is also favorable for train travelers. So those arriving by train can reach the Tourist Information without complicated transfers and can start their city visit right away. The city parking is also organized in a modern way: The city offers mobile parking via SMS or app, as well as a parking card and designated motorcycle parking spaces. For electric vehicles, as of April 1, 2025, there is a Bavaria-wide regulation for public parking spaces managed by the city, allowing up to three hours of free parking, provided the other conditions are met. For visitors, this primarily shows one thing: Weiden combines a historic center with a modern, everyday mobility structure. City Tours, Brochures, and Audio Guides
One of the strongest reasons to visit the Tourist Information Weiden is the city tours. The city offers public tours through the historic old town, which start every Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Old Town Hall from early May to late September. The tour lasts 90 minutes and takes you through Weiden's historic old town with its colorful gabled houses from the Renaissance, impressive churches, and romantic alleys. Tickets can be purchased directly at the Tourist Information in the Old Town Hall or online through the tourism page. For adults, the tour costs 6.00 euros, and for children, 2.00 euros. This is not only attractive in terms of price but also a good introduction to the city's history. Those visiting Weiden for the first time will receive a compact yet lively overview of the most important corners that could otherwise be easily overlooked. ([weiden.de](https://www.weiden.de/kultur/freizeit/veranstaltungen/details/oeffentliche-stadtfuehrung-8?utm_source=openai))
The Tourist Information also helps to make the city tour flexible. The official tourism page offers free audio guides, and experiences can also be booked online in advance, and informational materials can be ordered. This is particularly useful for visitors who want to be independent and prefer to move through the old town at their own pace. The Tourist Information is thus not only a place for tickets but also a planning center: it supports spontaneous short visits as well as carefully prepared weekend trips. Especially in a city like Weiden, where historic buildings, shopping opportunities, and cultural offerings are close together, a well-prepared tour can enhance the entire stay. Those who start at the Old Town Hall will find it much easier to access the sights, the most beautiful viewpoints, and the little details that often remain hidden in passing. ([dev.weiden.de](https://dev.weiden.de/))
Marketplace, Old Town Hall, and Weekly Market
The area around the Tourist Information is one of the most attractive parts of Weiden. The marketplace lies between Upper Gate and Lower Gate and forms the center of the old town. The Old Town Hall stands in the middle and shapes the historic ensemble with its distinctive character. The Upper Market with its beautiful gabled houses from the period after 1540 extends between Upper Gate and Old Town Hall, while the Lower Market forms the area towards Lower Gate. This is also where traditional markets and urban life come together. The city and the tourism page emphasize not only the architecture but also the historical character of the square sequence: Renaissance features on the townhouses, a clearly recognizable city center, and a pedestrian zone that makes the ensemble particularly well-experienced today. So when you come to the Tourist Information, you are not just in an office but right in the middle of a grown historical center. ([weiden-tourismus.info](https://www.weiden-tourismus.info/sehenswuerdigkeiten/bauten-denkmaeler/marktplatz?utm_source=openai))
This area becomes particularly lively through the weekly market at the Old Town Hall. Every Wednesday and Saturday from 07:00 to 12:30, traders and visitors meet here in the heart of the old town. The history of this market goes back a long way: market privileges have been mentioned since 1331, the weekly market was reorganized in 1607, moved to the avenue in 1948, and returned to the old town after the pedestrian zone was inaugurated in 1984. For visitors, this is more than just a footnote, as this market gives the area around the Tourist Information its special atmosphere in everyday life. Additionally, there is the Octagon Fountain directly in front of the Old Town Hall, which becomes a round crib during the Advent season. Thus, administration, tourism, city history, and everyday life come together in close proximity. ([weiden.de](https://www.weiden.de/kultur/einkaufsstadt/wochenmarkt))
Shopping, Gastronomy, and Old Town Flair
The Tourist Information is also located in an area that is very suitable for a relaxed city stroll. The official tourism page describes the historic Weiden old town as a place where a variety of shops hide behind Renaissance facades and listed buildings. Whether small boutiques, fashion houses, antiques, books, jewelry, shoes, or delicatessens: around the Upper and Lower Market, the visit can be well combined with shopping and enjoying. Cafés and restaurants are also directly part of this city experience. The city center of Weiden is described by the city as a trading center of the Upper Palatinate, characterized by an attractive combination of owner-operated shops, international chains, and delightful gastronomy. So if you have time after the consultation at the Tourist Information, you can easily extend your visit with a walk through the old town or a break in a café. ([weiden-tourismus.info](https://www.weiden-tourismus.info/einkaufen/in-der-altstadt))
The opening hours of the shops also fit well with a visit around the Tourist Information. In Weiden, shops are generally open Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 18:00, Saturday usually from 09:30 to 17:00; some shops on Max-Reger-Straße are even open until 19:00. On shopping Sundays, shopping can take place from 13:00 to 18:00. This makes it easy to structure the day: morning market or city tour, followed by information and planning at the Old Town Hall, then a stroll through the pedestrian zone or a break in one of the local establishments. For visitors, this creates a compact city center visit that connects culture, service, and consumption without large distances. The Tourist Information serves as a practical starting point in this context, as it provides the first overview and is also right in the middle of the action. ([weiden-tourismus.info](https://www.weiden-tourismus.info/einkaufen/in-der-altstadt))
Weiden as a Starting Point for Discoveries in the Region
Those who visit the Tourist Information often choose Weiden as a starting point for larger discovery tours. The official tourism page explicitly describes the city as an ideal starting point for excursions into the Upper Palatinate Forest. This is complemented by numerous tourist offerings: city and museum tours, excursion tips, online booking of experiences, free audio guides, and information on regional recreational opportunities. Weiden thus connects a compact, historically shaped center with a view of the surrounding landscape. For travelers, this means a pleasant mix: first the old town, market, and culture, then if needed nature, cycling and hiking tours, or further destinations in the vicinity. Especially because the Tourist Information is so centrally located at Upper Market, this combination can be planned quickly and without organizational hurdles. ([dev.weiden.de](https://dev.weiden.de/))
Weiden is also well-positioned in urban terms. The city presents itself as an open-minded and modern municipality with an attractive old town, a strong trading profile, and cultural offerings. This is particularly felt in the area around the Old Town Hall: here, history, weekly market, shopping opportunities, and tourism advice come together directly. Those who use the Tourist Information can thus design their visit very purposefully, for example, starting at the marketplace, followed by a walk through the old town, a tour on Saturday, or a detour into the shops and cafés of the pedestrian zone. In exactly this connection lies the value of the location: the Tourist Information is not just an address but a practical access point to Weiden itself. It helps to turn a short stay into a well-filled, coherent city experience. ([weiden.de](https://www.weiden.de/wirtschaft/wirtschaftsstandort/innenstadt))

My first visit to the market positively impressed me. There was a lively crowd since the weather was nice. The buildings surrounding the market are well-preserved and nicely arranged. Visiting the city is fun and naturally invites you to linger. Even during the night hours, there’s still a lot going on.

Located right by the A93, as a stopover from Bavaria to Saxony, it's a must for us. A very beautiful old town center, highly recommended at any time of year ❗️Affordable parking garage directly across from the city park, just a few minutes walk and you’re right there. Be surprised!

Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience using the accessible toilet at the Tourist Info in Weiden today. We got the key for the public toilet for disabled people from the staff at the Tourist Info. Upon entering the restroom, we couldn't believe our eyes. The room was very dirty, the floor hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The toilet, sink, and fixtures hadn't been cleaned for a while either. The soap dispenser was empty. The toilet bowl wasn't securely fastened, and you had to be afraid of collapsing when sitting down. The entire room is an imposition for people with disabilities. Urgent renovations are needed here. It's very sad that in this beautiful city, so little attention is paid to hygiene in public areas. The public toilets for people without disabilities didn't look much better either. On our next visit, we will probably check if anything has changed here. But our advice is to rather visit one of the restaurants and take care of business there for a fee!
